NTO started in Florida in 1971 with a computer class at Broward Community College in Davie Florida. The part of Davie in that year is far different than it is now. You could ride horses near Griffin and in the SunShine Ranches area and out west all of the time. The land was open and there were citris groves that were a big part of the real estate back then. I had a lot of experience driving especially on Flamingo road, Sterling and Griffin Road back then. It was a different Florida.
Westin did not even exist to the far west. Expansion to the west was just beginning. Often you would see people on horseback in downtown Davie. They would saddle up and ride into town. So it was very different time and much different than Ft. Lauderdale was.
The Allman Brothers band once played a concert at Broward Community College back then also. February 15, 1971 to be exact. It was the real Allman Brothers back then. Fantastic concert. Full set and what an experience. Two of the Allman Brothers band members were brought up in Daytona Florida.
